The ICD-9 (International Classification of Disease):

The ICD-9 Code must be supplied by the referring physician as massage therapists are not allowed to diagnose any conditions. Even if they just write a prescription say for back pain, the physician must provide the code even though you may know what the code for back pain is.  There are many different codes to describe different conditions and diseases.  It is important to get the correct code.
