The process of building a website

Yes, I have become a website addict! But you see, it isn’t really about the website. It is about the process of building one that is so exciting to me.

When I work with people to help them build a website for their massage practice, I help people take a really good look at themselves and then get a good understanding of who their client is so that they can then figure out what they want to say to someone to help them connect with that potential client.

You have to really know yourself and what it is that you do. What types of massage do you do AND why? Yes why do you do that? What do you get out of doing that type of work? What will your client get out of you doing that type of work? What does doing massage mean to you? What purpose does it serve for you to do massage? What feeling to get when you do a massage whether it is for money or not? What solution do you provide for people?

Who is your ideal client? Not just what age, occupation, location or other demographics. What problems do they have? What do they value? What are they looking for? Put yourself in your clients shoes. How would they go about finding a massage therapist that fits their needs?

When you have a good picture of who you are and what you do and why and combine it with your picture of your ideal client, you will have to talk about yourself and communicate what it is that you do to potential clients who are looking for what it is that you do.

That’s all that marketing is. Who you are + your ideal client = a successful business relationship.

The process of creating a website will take you through all of these steps in depth and will keep you focused on those things. You will have to write about 30 pages on what you do using the keywords that someone would use to find you. You will have to continue to write pages and keep adding things to your website to attract more search engines and people.

This whole process is taught in the Free Service Seller’s Masters Course from Sitebuildit!

If you so start a website for your massage practice, there are also other ways to make money from your site. One of the things that I see that is really needed is a Continuing education calendar for each major city. It could be combined with a job/office for rent listing center. This whole thing could really be done through your website and make you money on the side.
If anyone is iterested in doing something like that, please contact me and I will help you as much as I can.
If you are wanting to build a website on something else besides a massage (or any other service related business) and learn to make money with your website, it again is a process. What you have to figure out is what are you most passionate about? What do you love talking about? What are you an expert at? What lights up your life? It doesn’t have to be anything big or amazing. Do you know a lot about a certain disease or condition? Do you love hiking or birdwatching? Do you have a craft or hobby that you participate in? Do you know a lot about investing, buying houses, growing tomatoes, homeschooling, taking care of elderly, creating landscapes, interior decorating, a certain type of massage or bodywork?
What ever it is there is a website in it and it is a process of learning to uncover your passion and make it into something that makes you a second income or even a full time income or money to supplement your retirement or whatever it is that you want the money for.

There are many ways of making money online. You can see some of them on my website, but the main way that I have been making money online is with Google Adsense. All you do is set up a free account with them and they give you the code to put on your website for the ads and when ever anyone clicks on the ad- you get paid. I know it just sounds like the craziest thing you ever heard. Who clicks on ads? Well someone is and it is helping me make a decent size income so I can focus on my writing and keeping you informed and challenging you to become a successful massage therapist!

Sitebuildit!

I have just taken another step in totally making a living using Sitebuildit (SBI) and websites for my income. I had been working with a business coach who was the coach for Harv Eker (author of “The Millionaire Mind” ) and I recently decided not to continue on with him mainly because I have really taken more steps in really studying SBI and using the SBI process to build more income. (So look out! It is now SBI month. Everyday I will tell you something new about SBI and what it can do.)

That’s the big thing about SBI – it is a process. It is a process that allows you to find what you are passionate about and teaches you every step of the way to become a success online.

To really understand the depth of SBI requires about 1000 page manual (which they probably have with all the combined manuals and info that they have – probably even more!). The process works and it is proven by many people.

The whole process really gets you thinking about what it is that you do so you can learn to effectively communicate that to people who need you and are looking for you.

The process all begins with figuring out your site concept or niche. It is all centered around keywords and what people are looking for on the web. (they aren’t looking for you necessarily).

What keywords would someone find you with if you were doing a website for your massage business? What would they be looking for? These are some of the words that people have found my site www.massageseattle.net using..

My webhost, SBI keeps me informed of what keywords people are using to find my site. That way I can start creating pages with those specific keywords in them and attract more of those people searching for massage in seattle.

The thing is you can never really tell what people will be looking for, but with using SBI they will tell you! You can then adjust your site accordingly.

They also tell you what links in your site were clicked on the most – where people are going the most so you can get an idea of what people are looking for.

They keep track of what links people are clicking on to get into your site.

They keep track of everything so you can create a website that works. No other website will do that for you as far as I know.

The keywords are also the basis of creating your website. If you want to do a site that has nothing to do with your massage business for making additional income while you start your practice, you can start with the same concept – keyword research. SBI comes with the software and resources to find a profitable site concept/niche and then helps you find the right keywords to begin with to make your website that works.

It is all laid out in the action guide which you can begin reading right now.

No other hosting company or service will help you or do all of this for you.

Building Content for your website

One of the secrets to building a successful website is about writing great content. Most massage therapists websites just have the standard 5-8 page website with the usual – Services, Features, Benefits of massage, Prices, Location…

The key to attracting clients and search engines is creating about 50 pages of content and keep adding pages every week or every few days. Now you are probably saying “I can’t write that much”. “I am not a good writer” or whatever other fears you have generated.

The thing is that every massage therapist needs to be writing about massage and what it can do for people sharing your experiences of what really happens on the table. As a profession, we need to be constantly educating clients and the best way to do that is through a website.

So where do you begin trying to figure out what to write about?
The Touch Research Institute has a great research data base of conditions that massage has shown to improve. Start with that list and write about the things you have seen in relation to those studies and reference the studies to back you up.

You don’t have to be a technical writer. Just write the way you talk. You can also use all of this information in brochures or flyers you distribute and mail out or use it in your newsletter that you can do online through your website or by sending it snail mail.

If you need help learning to write there are a few great Ebooks that are put out by Sitebuildit! to help you learn and yes they are Free.

  • Make Your Content Presell
  • Netwriting Masters Course
  • Service sellers Masters Course
  • Another idea is to use this Searchit! tool -
In the first step choose “Reference Library for Content” and then choose any of the selections in step two and then put your words that describe what kind of content you are looking for in the keyword box. Try the “find articles” selection in step 2 first as that will give you lists of articles that you can acutally use on your website as long as you reference the writer and follow the rules they have in using those articles. Ezine Articles is also a good source.

Also check these sources for ideas and examples of how to write:

    Massage Today

    Massage Magazine

Massage Nerds – list of massage articles.

If that isn’t enough to get you thinking about and creating articles for your website or maybe you don’t have the time to put into making a website with SBI, then you may be better off with a service such as www.massagelaunch.com where you can set up a simple website and they do the pay-per-click advertising to get you clients. I have been trying this out with my website www.citycentermassage.com and I have been getting a few phone calls each week from them. I highly recommend them and have worked with the owner and creator, Tim Prince extensively and the biggest thing I can say is that he is the nicest guy you will ever want to meet and his heart is sincerely invested in making a website work for your business.

The reason for writing so much content is that it will help the search engines to find you and it will also build trust with your readers.

Making your Website work for you

A website that works is a website that gets you to the top of the search engines, gets the reader to click on your site and gets the reader to do what you are asking – make the call, buy the product or whatever…

For the most part to make that happen all you need to do is keep adding pages of content and keep getting other sites to link to you.

Writing new content attracts search engines and people. It builds trust with your readers. It lets people know that you can handle whatever it is that they are dealing with. They want to know you know what you are doing. They need to trust you.

When someone finds your site just from a search it adds to your ‘attractiveness’ in that they didn’t read about you in an ad or whatever. They didn’t find you from some attempt at advertising to them and trying to make the sale. They found you because they are good at searching and know what they are looking for and they made a decision to try you out.

If you want to add affiliate programs to your site, they have to be things that are highly compatible with what you do. Affiliate programs are agreements with other companies that when you refer someone to them from you site that you will get paid. You can talk about books, oils, lotions, aromatherapy items and other things you use in your practice like music and then refer them to your website to buy them rather than carrying stock.

Using pay per click advertising on a site that is promoting your business is not usually a good idea. Ads take the reader away from your site and take the focus off of you. What you want is an attentive prospect who will want to call you and not go wandering off to view other sites. If you want to make money using Google Adsense or other pay per click programs, it is best to start a site and just write about something you know a lot about and write about something you really love. I have been teaching others to do this You can find out more on my site www.workless-playmore.com that explains how to do it all.

    Build Traffic for your Website

One of the things you can do to direct traffic to your website is to write articles and submit them to free article directories. You can also find articles from these sites and post it on your website to create content.

The reason for doing this is to make your site look popular to search engines. They love to see what are called back links.
