Is your massage website getting you new clients every week? If it isn’t you are missing out on targeted potential clients. If people are not finding your website by searching for the words ‘massage, your city’ you are basically losing business.
The way that most people find massage therapists these days is the internet. A few rural areas may also use the phone book but the phone book is becoming obsolete. Your web presence (or lack of it!) can bring you a steady flow of clients – yes even in this so called “economy”.
After you get it to the top of the search engines you site must also tell people about what you do – what sets you apart from all of the other massage therapists out there. Educating clients requires that you learn to write down and communicate what it is that massage does and what you do with clients so that potential clients can see if they are interested in your services. Just finding a calling card type of site might work for a few people but to get a steady flow of new clients you need to show them your stuff!
If you think that you don’t know how to write – don’t worry about it. It isn’t really about being a good writer. It is about communicating to potential clients and clients. It is just writing down the same things that you would tell potential clients on the phone or to people you meet or to your current clients. By providing this information you build trust with the reader. What most potential massage clients want to know is if you will know how to handle whatever pain or condition they are presenting with. They want to know that they won’t be too much for you or that they will get the most for their money.
To get your massage business website to the top of the search engines and educate potential clients you need to know a few things about building websites:
- The best domain name is a combination of the keywords that you choose to represent your business. What keywords do you want people to find you with? It also tells exactly what you do easily so that people won’t have to guess.
- When creating the actual pages you need to make them in a certain way that will optimize them for the search engines. This means you have to tell the search engines what is on your pages. They don’t scan the whole page – just key elements. You will need to create pages using your keywords in the file name of the page, in the title of the page and in the first sentence or two of your page. It also helps to use the keyword in a link. You also need to know how to create metatags for your website. These are tags that people don’t see but the search engines do. You will need to create a title tag, description tag and keyword tag using the main keyword that you are using for the page. Got it?
- After you get a few pages up you will need to also create an xml sitemap. That is a special file that the search engines read about your site to see when you update pages and add content. You can create one using free software online. Just do a search for xml sitemap creator free. Add that page to your website and update it every time you add a page or change a page but don’t do it too often.
- Learn to write to educate and communicate what you do. Learn to write and ask people to call or sign up for a newsletter or to ask any questions.
- It is important to get people’s contact info so you can send them more information about your business, sales, special offers, how to buy gift certificates and health care.
- Send a weekly newsletter with tips on health, healing and massage. You can site the latest research. Talk about how muscles work. Keep people thinking about you.
- Your website can also make you additional money while you are busy doing massage. This is a great way to supplement your income while you are getting started or through slow periods or when you are sick or on vacation! You can do that by promoting affiliate programs which are other companies products. You can find almost anything -massage tools, ebooks on health and even create a resource section for massage therapists in your local area. You can promote products like the Insurance Billing Manual from www.massageinsurancebilling.com or other massage marketing programs. You can create an online CE calendar and charge people to list their classes there or just use Google Adsense to make money.
So if some of this makes sense then your website should be getting you a steady flow of new clients. If you don’t have a website that does all that for you then you might want to take a look at the software and system that I use for building my massage clinic website and a few other of my websites - Site Build it!. They teach you every thing you need to know about getting your site found and doing just what I said – getting a steady flow of new clients.
They are actually having a sale right now for Mothers Day that is a buy one for the regular price of $299 and get the second one for $100. What would you do with two sites? You can give it away or keep it for yourself and use it to build a full online business for yourself. It can be something related to massage or you can just take some hobby or interest or specialized knowledge that you have and turn it into a money making endeavor. That is what I do with my many sites www.thebodyworker.com, www.massage-career-guides.com and www.workless-playmore.com. I only do massage 2-3 days a week seeing only 12-15 clients a week and work on my sites the other days. Even in this “economy” I am able to supplement my income nicely.
So let me know if you have any questions or if you already have a website up and would like a review of your site, just let me know and I can give you some ideas on how to improve it.
