The recent ABMP member survey reports that only 26.8% of massage therapists use websites to promote their practice.

This could mean a few different things…

- massage therapists have all of the clients that they need.
-massage therapists don’t know where to start in creating a website
-they are afraid of putting their business online thinking it will attract less than desirable clients
-they don’t understand that they can also make other money from their website that could supplement their income

Most people are also using brochures, referrals and networking as their main methods of marketing. If you are doing any of those and don’t have a website, you are missing on a big opportunity to provide more information and build more trust which is what a website does.

Whatever the reasons for not having a website, there just aren’t any excuses any more. I can boil it down to just three words – Site Build It!

One of the challenges with a website is getting the search engines to find you. If you have chosen Site Build It! as your hosting company you have solved half the problem.

The other part has to be done by you and that is building links to your site. Search engines love links to your site. Some ways of doing that are to:

A website is worthless unless it is found by search engines. If it isn’t getting you a few new clients a week or month it isn’t doing it’s job.

The basic things are:

- Choosing a domain that says what you do and where you do it (massage-denver.com)
- Using keywords, descriptions and proper naming of file names for your pages
- Creating high quality content – at least 30 pages. This can be done gradually over time.
- Use a rss system or blog to notify the search engines when you add new pages or posts
- Create Google and Yahoo site maps and submit the site maps to the major search engines ( do a search for google and yahoo sitemaps and find free software that can create these or this comes with your SBI site automatically and it is updated regularly)
- Submit your site to search engines
- Get high quality links from other service providers in your neighborhood.
- Add your link to free directories
-Write ezine articles for the free articles directories
- Study your traffic results and find out what keywords people are using to find you. (SBI has a in depth system for doing this and even will tell you what pages to add to your site)
- Wish or just use SBI

So it takes time and energy to get your site to the top of the search engines and a nice looking , expensive site is really worthless if it isn’t getting found by search engines.

Most people just want an 8-10 website to promote their practice and that is a great way to start and all you need if you use SBI and their complete action guide. I just did a site last month for someone in Manalapan NJ -manalapanmassage.com and it was on the first page of Google in 4 days after submitting it to the search engines using the proper search engine optimization methods outlined here.

I am just about making a living online using the Google Adsense program and additional income from other affiliate programs.
After reading this article in the Seattle Times, I am convinced that I will soon be making more than a living!

The way Google Adsense works is that you get a free account with them that allows you to create blocks of advertisements and now blocks of referral ads. You can select the color, size and layout of the ad and whether or not you want video ads or just text ads. You can track each ad by formating what they call a channel so that you can track the results of the ad by placement, color or whatever. When someone clicks on the ads you get paid. When someone clicks on the referral ads and buys the product or signs up for the newsletter or whatever it is, you get paid again.

The whole basis for your success depends on the amount of content that you have (pages that you can put Google Ads on) and the amount of traffic you get. The way to build traffic is to write content and use Site Build It! (SBI)
