Learning to Feel

When we touch people's body, we are also touching their mind, emotions and their souls.  In order to serve our clients,

we need to be aware of how we influence them though our touch, words, actions and beliefs.  Knowing ourselves is the key to understanding our clients and others.

While there is nothing that can replace the work with a good mental health counselor, there are some things you can do on your own to become more aware of yourself.  These same tools can be used when working on clients to be a witness for their process and support them through their process.

I have been studying and using these methods myself and highly recommend them all.  I actually have combined some of them as I have learned more about them and studied them.  In many ways, they are all address the same basic issue and that is learning to feel our feelings and know where they come from and what to do with them.  Since our work is about creating feelings through touch it is most important to become conscious of your feelings.  This will enhance your practice. Most of the methods can actually assist you in building your practice.

(Each link refers to a more detailed explanation of what these tools are based on what I have discovered about them.  They are my personal opinions and experiences.)

Emotional Freedom Technique- A unique method of using a special technique of tapping on certain acupuncture points while address the emotional issues surrounding the issue.  The manual that describes the technique is free through the website.  Great support and detailed instructions are available through CD's and a regular newsletter.  Also a great website and resource for ideas on building a practice using EFT.  Use on yourself or with clients for an added service!
